The Bhutan International Marathon is a celebration of adventure, perseverance, and Bhutan’s natural beauty. Born from the vision of the BOC and Ms. Terri Schneider, it showcases Bhutan as a destination for sports and cultural exploration.
Now in its 11th edition, the event not only inspires runners to push their limits but also nurtures a love for running among Bhutanese youth. It’s more than a race—it’s a heartfelt journey of shared humanity and purposeful movement, crafted with love for Bhutan and the sport.
The marathon is a canvas where courage paints its story in real time. Every uphill climb challenges your strength, every winding path tests your resolve, and every cheering voice adds a spark of magic to your spirit.

Whether you’re ready to conquer the full 42 km marathon or prefer the spirited 21 km half marathon, each distance promises a unique journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Bhutan!
The Full Marathon covers a challenging 42 km, taking runners through Bhutan’s scenic rural landscapes. The route is a perfect mix of terrain, with approximately 50% on hard-packed dirt trails and 50% on paved roads, offering participants a unique and rewarding experience as they traverse through villages, forests, and alongside rivers.
The Half Marathon spans 21 km, offering a mix of adventure and challenge as runners navigate through Bhutan's beautiful rural countryside. The route is composed of approximately 40% hard-packed dirt trails and 60% paved roads, providing a dynamic experience through serene natural surroundings.
