Full Marathon Details

  • Distance: 42 km of challenging terrain through Bhutan’s scenic rural landscapes
  • Route: A unique mix of 50% hard-packed dirt trails and 50% paved roads, taking runners through villages, forests, and riversides
  • Start Location: Gasa Dzongkhag
  • Finish Location & Parking: Punakha Dzong
  • Runner Check-in: Participants must report to the Kuruthang Taxi Parking (in front of the Punakha Multi Sports Complex) by 5:45 AM
  • Race Start Time: 8:00 AM

Half Marathon Details

  • Distance: 21 km offering a mix of adventure and challenge through Bhutan’s stunning rural landscapes
  • Route: Approximately 40% hard-packed dirt trails and 60% paved roads, giving runners a dynamic experience surrounded by serene natural beauty
  • Course: The Half Marathon follows the second half of the Full Marathon course
  • Finish Location & Parking: Punakha Dzong
  • Runner Check-in: Participants must report to the Khuruthang Taxi Parking (in front of the Punakha Multi Sports Complex) by 6:45 AM
  • Race Start Time: 8:00 AM

Essential Race Information & Pre-Race Guidelines

Quick Information:

  • Pre-Race Briefing: Held in Punakha prior to the race.
  • Festive Race Start: With officials from Gasa and Punakha Dzongkhag.
  • Transportation: Provided from the finish line at Punakha Dzong to the race start.
  • Personal Belongings: Transported from the start line to the finish line for all participants.
  • Technical Running Shirt: Participants receive a race shirt featuring the Bhutan International Marathon (BIM) logo.
  • Special Gifts: Every finisher will receive a special gift.
  • Top Competitor Awards: Special awards will be given to the top runners.
  • Awards Celebration: Includes traditional entertainment for participants and spectators.
  • Aid Stations & Medical Support: Available throughout the race route.
  • Raffle Prizes: Participants have a chance to win exciting raffle prizes at the Awards Ceremony!

Quick Information:

  • Packet Pick-Up: Takes place at THE NEW MULTI-SPORTS HALL in Khuruthang (above the Taxi Parking). Don’t forget to bring a picture ID for check-in.
  • Race Number: You will receive your race number during check-in, which must be pinned to the front of your running shirt.
  • Registration Fee: If not paid beforehand, it can be settled at the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) office prior to the event or during packet pick-up.
  • Race Briefing: Held in the afternoon at the same venue, providing essential information to participants.
