The Bhutan International Marathon (BIM) is more than just a race; it is a journey through a serene landscape and celebrating an athlete’s endurance throughout the journey. It is an annual premium event organized by the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) on March 1st of every year and is conducted at Punakha.

The 11th edition of BIM will begin during the beautiful transition of winter to spring season where the participants will be able to enjoy the cool and warm temperatures along with the blossoming of flora adding beauty to the mesmerizing landscape of the valley.

The event is open to all and will have both international and local participants gearing up for the marathon. This event will not only test their limits but also create memories along their journey, enjoying the scenic landscape and rich culture. The participants will also be collecting souvenirs of BIM that reflect our uniqueness as Bhutan.

Before the race, the participants would be provided with light refreshments to get ready for the event. Following that, all the participants would be provided with Race goodie bags, Bip Number, Chip timing, event T-shirt, and 8 safety pins to ensure safety and fair participation throughout the race.

The Bhutan International Marathon features two race categories, the Full Marathon spans 42-kilometer, and the Half Marathon, a 21-kilometer route, that stretches through dirt trails and paved roads. Runners would traverse from vibrant villages, lush forests, and scenic riversides, with routes including the Khamsum Yulley Temple, Punakha Dzong, and a 300-foot suspension bridge over the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu River at the 18.6-mile mark. Along the route, there would be 10 stations placed to help the participants with refreshments. Also, there would be a total of 5 tracker checkpoints to track the participants.

After completing the race, every participant would be able to use the service of free massage. Then winners would be presented with medals, certificates, and cash prizes while other participants who completed the race would also be provided with certificates of appreciation and medals. There would also be snacks and refreshments after the race.

After the event, the media will have photo sessions and interviews with the participants about their experiences from the race. The event will be concluded with fun and exciting festive entertainment for the participants and public which will include live music, dance, and food courts to engage.
