Bhutan International Marathon 2026 Set for March 7 in Punakha

Punakha, Bhutan – The Bhutan Olympic Committee is excited to announce that the Bhutan International Marathon 2026 will take place on 7 March 2026, welcoming runners from Bhutan and across the globe to the breathtaking Punakha Valley. Now in its 11th edition, the marathon promises another unforgettable experience, combining physical challenge with the natural beauty and rich culture that make Bhutan so special.

This year’s theme, “The Ascent of Happiness,” captures the spirit of the marathon. It reflects the journey of pushing one’s limits, embracing challenges, and finding joy in every step along the way—both on the racecourse and in life.

Runners will have the option to participate in the Full Marathon (42 km) or the Half Marathon (21 km). Both courses feature a mix of paved roads and dirt trails, taking participants past serene rivers, traditional villages, lush forests, and iconic Bhutanese landmarks. It’s a race that challenges the body while offering a journey through Bhutan’s unique heritage and stunning landscapes.

Registration will open soon. For the first time, participants can pay using Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, along with local bank payment options within Bhutan.

The Bhutan International Marathon continues to grow as one of Asia’s most scenic and culturally immersive marathon events. It’s more than a race—it’s a chance to explore Bhutan, meet runners from around the world, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
